Helping Hands Newsletter 2015 #3

“You cannot build a dream on a foundation of sand. To weather the test of storms, it must be cemented in the heart with uncompromising conviction.” T.F Hodge

It has been an awesome 2015 so far and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our donors, supporters and volunteers for everything they have done for Helping Hands. We continue to strive to give our beneficiaries, the Helping Hands children, all the help and support they need but all these will not be possible without your commitment to give generously of your time and resources to make our projects succeed.

Thank you so much from the bottom of or hearts.

Building Project Update

From the last week of July to the first two weeks of August, a group of 20 volunteers from the Netherlands headed by Karsten Loon worked at the Helping Hands premises to build the main structures of the new dormitory and kitchen extension.

Prior to this, volunteer groups from River Church International, Mtubatuba laid the brick foundations while volunteers from Destiny Team @ NCF Church Pietermaritzburg laid the concrete floor slabs for both tbuildings.

By the time the Dutch volunteers left, both buildings’ walls were up and the window and door frames were installed.

On the weekend of August 14 to 16, another group of volunteers from NCF Church Pietermaritzburg came to do more work on the buildings. They painted the doors and some of the walls and put up the roof in the dormitory building.

There are still more things to be done but we are so blessed to have people come and volunteer to finish the work.

We look forward to having the buildings completely finished for our children.

Martin and Jeanette Harder, who head Missions4KZN and are also members of River Church International, have been managing the groups and overseeing the progress of our Building Project.

HH Kids At The Monzi Hippo MTB Race

On Sunday, September 6, six boys from Helping Hands participated at the Monzi MTB Cycling Race held at Monzi, KwaZulu Natal.

Zululand Cycles sponsored the children’s brand new helmets while one of our individual donors, Mr. Fulvio Pace, sponsored the six bicycles used during the race.

Our Best Wishes To Nicki

We would like to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to Nicki Armstrong who initiated the bible classes with the Helping Hands children at the ULOA Primary School on Wednesdays during school terms. The classes were later moved to the Helping Hands homes.

With her family moving to Durban, Nicki will no longer be able to give the bible lessons to the children. However, the rest of the bible class team composed of Sharon Groom, Kim Lund, and Vicci Lonsdale will continue with the classes.

We wish Nicki and her lovely family the best in all their endeavors. We are certain they will be a blessing wherever they go.

Sponsor-A-Child Program

Helping Hands’ Sponsor-A-Child project gives people who would like to help the opportunity to sponsor a child through a regular monthly donation of R250.00 per child.  These donations go towards meeting the immediate and future educational needs of the children.
